Varna planetarium is located in the Central part of the city Park.

In 1960, in the era of early space travel, g. Varna was established the club of astronomy and Astronautics. Two years later, according to the results in the city of the XIII Congress of the International Federation of Aeronautics and Astronautics, put forward the initiative to build in Varna first astronomical Observatory. In 1963. at the disposal of the club provide old summer theatre, located in the center of seaside Park. There are lessons on astronomy, rakotondravony. A year later, the city administration decided to demolish the building of the theatre, to build a Observatory. The author of the project was made by architect Kamen Goranov. However, in the course of construction changed plans, and in 1966. the main building is attached planetarium. Opened in may 1968 astronomical complex, named after the great scientist Nicolaus Copernicus was the first in Bulgaria. There are an Observatory, a planetarium and a Foucault pendulum. The staff engaged in the observation of artificial Earth satellites. The center also offers courses in astronomy, which can be attended by everyone.

The planetarium in Varna – the first in the entire country. At the entrance is the monument of N. Copernicus two Bulgarian sculptors – P. and L. Atanasova Delcheva. The diameter of the dome of the planetarium reaches 10, 5 meters. Installed inside the equipment brought from Germany. Using a variety of projectors on the dome appears around 5500 stars, planets and their movement their orbits, the Solar system, etc. the Planetarium is very popular – since the opening it was visited by more than 800,000 people.

In the tower at the planetarium you can see the Foucault pendulum is the only facility of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula. In a small room located under the tower, visitors can observe the swinging of the pendulum. The cargo in the form of a disk suspended on a long (17, 6 meters) rope; the amplitude of the oscillations in the lower part is almost 2 meters. Foucault's pendulum is an invention that allows you to demonstrate that the Earth revolves around its own axis.

Due to the reconstruction of the building complex was closed from 1998 to 2002. Thanks to the project of architect G. Sivakova, as well as the efforts of many specialists, the appearance of an updated Observatory acquired a modern sound.
