Palace of culture "ammophos" was created on the base of the House of culture of Cherepovets. In 1992 an agreement was signed between the employees of the House of culture, city hall of Cherepovets and JSC "ammophos" on joint activities in the sphere of culture. In 1996 due to the economic difficulties in the company "ammophos" the building was fully placed under the control of city government and became a Municipal institution - the city Palace of culture "ammophos". Today in the Palace of successfully working 84 club 2052 participants and 20 teams performances. Together with these creative associations active social activities, events are held nationwide scale, is of aesthetic education of youth. For many years DC "ammophos" directly participates in the cultural life of the city and plays an important role in shaping its cultural values.

On the territory of the Palace of culture is the national drama theatre. It grew from a regular drama club, which was established in 1930 at the House of culture of Cherepovets. In 1959, after the production of the play "20 years later" M. Svetlova, this team was awarded the title of "national drama theatre". It was the first such theater in the Vologda region received the title of "folk". At that time, it was directed by famous Director In.N. Dessler, who was at the forefront of the theater and put a lot of effort to create it. In 1966 it was replaced by another talented Director – Yu.N. Laterals. He continued the work of his predecessor, while continuing to discover talent and to nurture a new generation of artists from the people. In 1982 the place of the U. N. Pasinkova came V. F. Anthers. During his leadership, the theatre has received many prestigious at the time, diplomas and awards, and became known not only in the Vologda region, but also abroad, including in Moscow. Today the theatre is headed by L. A. Makovkin.

Folk drama theatre since its inception to the present time has always adhered to the classical tradition. The actors are Amateurs, despite the lack of theatre education, endowed with extraordinary natural talent, clothe in new forms and make sound new well-known masterpieces of Russian and foreign classics. At the theater embodied the characters of A. Ostrovsky, N. Gogol, A. Chekhov, M. Gorky, Mikhail Bulgakov, F. Schiller, J. Moliere, etc., sounded the poetry of A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, N. Nekrasov, Blok, Akhmatova, M. Tsvetaeva, etc.

Among the most famous productions to celebrate "20 years later" M. Svetlova, "Intrigue and love" by F. Schiller, "Silver pieces" V. Mylnikova, and, of course, "Kozma Prutkov. This poem was also created by the script V. Mylnikova. It started in the House-Museum Vereshagin and can be heard here. Egorov in the title role.
