Gomel monastery in the name of Saint Nicholas of Myra was founded in 1994.

In 1904, was built the Church of St. Nicholas. The temple was built with funds collected by the Board of Trustees, educated employees Polesie railway. Among the contributors were very famous people. The land on which the Church was built was donated by the famous philanthropist Gomel Princess Irina Ivanovna Paskevich of Erivan. Considerable funds, the blessing and the prayers of the supported builders and Trustees John of Kronstadt, who was canonized after his death and became one of the most revered Orthodox saints. On 22 October, 1904, the feast of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God, the new temple was consecrated.

In 1929 came to Gomel Soviet power, and with it the repression of all religions and beliefs. Not spared this trouble and the Nikolskaya Church. It closed and was organized in the premises of the former Church of the forge.

During the great Patriotic war fascist invaders opened all the temples of the city. Including was opened and the Church of St. Nicholas. Since then the Church has never been closed, and in 1994 it was decided to open her monastery. At first, the monks ' cells were wooden. At the monastery organized a fraternal choir.

Large changes of the monastery after 2000, when it was decided to first build a stone fraternal building, then the gateway Church of Dionysius of Radonezh.

At the moment Nicholas monastery is the only active monastery in Gomel. It organized a Sunday school and Church library.
