State Museum of Hyderabad is currently the oldest and one of the most interesting museums of this city. It began in 1915 Golconda, Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, who, to conserve the cultural heritage of his homeland, created the Department of Archaeology, who was involved in the excavation, collection and storage of archaeological finds. Subsequently have a great collection of antique valuables (coins, paintings, statues, weapons). For this collection in 1930 and was created a Museum. It was originally called simply the Hyderabad Museum, but in 1968 became a state and is now in the custody of the state government. It is located inside a public Park (Pablic Garden) and is a rather interesting structure, built in Indo-Saracenic style.
The exposition of the Museum consists of several thematic galleries: bronze, Buddhist, numismatic, and also galleries devoted to the brahmanas, the armor and weapons, manuscripts, textiles, etc. including in the Museum collection there are letters and photographs of Mahatma Gandhi. In addition, since 1950, the Museum staff began collecting paintings by contemporary artists. The main galleries are Indian and Buddhist sculptures. So in the Indian gallery, you can see a wonderful collection of coins, which is the second largest in the world after the collection of the British Museum in London.
The Museum also has a library, a collection of books which will be interesting to everyone who is interested in history, archaeology and Museum work.
All the exhibits are unique and priceless. So the collection is even true mummy daughter of the sixth Pharaoh of Egypt. The mummy was presented to the Museum by the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad.
