The picturesque island of Hydra, which lies in the Saronic Gulf, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. Fascinating story, lots of interesting places, as well as magnificent natural landscapes annually attract large numbers of tourists.

One of the main and perhaps the most interesting attractions of the island of Hydra is the convent of Saint Eupraxia. The temple is located in an amazingly beautiful location among pine and cypress trees on the hillside Eros (588 m), at an altitude of approximately 500 meters above sea level.

The monastery of Saint Eupraxia was built in the 19th century. This is a small cozy complex, the main Church room which is of relatively simple architecture. The peaceful atmosphere that prevails in the monastery, will distract from the Madding crowd and enjoy the peace and quiet. The road to the monastery winds along the hillside and offers truly breathtaking scenery. Walking tour takes about 40-45 minutes. However, you can take a fascinating journey on donkeys - a very popular island transport.

Today in the monastery of Saint Eupraxia lives just a few of the nuns. In the monastery they organized a small workshop embroidery, where you will be able to purchase as a souvenir of gorgeous handmade products.

Walk in the picturesque surroundings of the monastery will bring you a lot of pleasure, and rising to the top of Eros, will be able to enjoy the stunning beauty of the panoramic views of the Hydra and the other Islands of the Saronic Gulf. Definitely worth a visit and located very close (literally a few minutes walk up the hill) another Orthodox Church of the island - monastery of the Prophet Elijah.
