Mozyr United Museum of local lore was founded immediately after the war, on 18 June 1948 decision No. 618 of 18.06.1948 G. Executive Committee of the Gomel oblast Council of deputies "About the opening of the regional Museum in Mozyr". Originally the Museum was called the Polesie regional Museum.
In 1977 the building that housed the Museum on Lenin street was demolished. The early 1980s began the archaeological survey of the town. It was found a large amount unique from the point of view of archaeology subjects in the areas of Castle hill, of the Cistercian monastery, the historic center of the city.
