Becan is an ancient city of the Maya. It is located in the Central part of the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico, in the state of Campeche, in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula. In the district – the ruins of other ancient settlements of the Maya Calakmul, Xpujil, Balamku and poplar bluff (mo).

According to the researchers, the first stone was built here in about 550 BC, a few centuries later, the Bekaa has become a major regional centre. During the excavations were found many artifacts of ancient civilization from weapons to jewelry. With 830 ad, the city's population began to decline, and in 1200 it was finally abandoned.

City dominated the surrounding settlements, as was one of the largest Mayan settlements. In the main part of the city could be reached after passing through the tunnel with a length of about 50 meters. In the North of Bekaa is the main part, which is the fortress. Thence, according to the researchers, the people could defend themselves in case of siege. The basic outlines of buildings and the channels through which spanned by seven bridges, can be seen today.
