The monument to the famous Kalyazin to Saint Macarius is one of the main attractions of the city. He appeared in 2008. Funds for the creation and installation of the monument were collected by citizens, and in June 2008 the sculpture of the patron Saint of Kalyazin, made of bronze, was installed on Karl Marx street, leading directly to the Uglich reservoir, on the "tourist" route, which takes place every guest of the city. In the solemn opening ceremony was attended by the Archbishop Tver and Kashinsky Victor.
The figure of St. Macarius of Kalyazin is set on the backdrop of a stylized element of the wall of the ancient Church, with a narrow window-the loophole, with a small dome at the top, giving the whole the appearance of the monument, similar to the chapel. In the left hand Macarius you can see the model of the monastery, in the right – Mace monk wanderer. On the wall above the head of the Saint carved the words: "the Sainted father Macarius, pray to God for us." This inscription is in the form of an arc around the image of the Trinity, which is a reminder of based Macarius the Trinity monastery. Near the monument – lots of flowers, and behind him – reservoir, once consumed the monastery of Macarius, but his memory is not destroyed.
Macarius of Kalyazin (in the world – Kozhin Matvey Vasilyevich) – Holy Russian Church, revered in the face of the monk, is the founder of the Trinity-Kalyazin monastery. Was born about 1402 in the village Kožino Kashinsky district of the Tver region. His parents, Basil and Irina Kozeny were boyars. When Matthew was 18 years old, married Elena Blue, which after 3 years died. After his wife's death left in Kłobukowska the monastery of the city of Kashin. Here was tonsured a monk and received the name Macarius.
A few years later Macarius left the monastery and decided to retire to a desert place, 18 miles from Kashin. Here in the midst of dense forests he built a hut. Soon he was joined by 7 of the elders of Kłobukowska abode. After some time in place of their dorms appeared Trinity monastery, famous for during the life of the monk.
March 17, 1483 Makarios died. He was buried in his wooden temple. In the spring of 1521 during repair work in the Church was found the coffin with the body of St. Macarius. The coffin was opened and, according to legend, were found incorrupt relics of the Saint. At the Church Council in 1547 Makarios was glorified among the saints.
In 1700 for the relics of the Saint was made a silver Shrine. In 1930-e years after the monastery the relics of St. Macarius were delivered to Tver and later transferred to Trinity Cathedral.
