Theatre of Opera and ballet. Musa Jalil is located on Freedom square in the centre of Kazan. The theater building was started in 1936. The author of the project was the Moscow architect N. P. Starlings. In 1948 the building was altered facades and interiors under the direction of Kazan architect I. G. Gainutdinov.
From the outbreak of the great Patriotic war the building was slow. It was built almost 20 years. In construction works used the labor of German prisoners of war. The construction was completed in the mid-fifties. In 1956 the building of the new theatre was opened Opera Zhiganov Altynchech.
The interior of the building and its interiors has acquired the features of modern neoclassical. The decoration used a combination of antique decor with traditional elements of Tatar decorative art. The main facade was decorated with eight-columned portico (Corinthian) with a stylized Tatar national ornament.
