Royal armouries – the UK's national Museum of arms and armor. This is the oldest Museum in the United Kingdom and one of the oldest museums in the world. It houses one of the world's richest collections of arms and armor. The Museum comprises three main collections: the cold weapons and armor, artillery and firearms. Branch of the Museum located in different cities: armouries in Leeds, the Museum of artillery at Fort Nelson in Portsmouth and the office in the tower of London, where originally there was the Armory. A small part of the collection demonstrated in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Armory existed in the tower, probably since its inception. Here houses a collection of weapons, there armor was made for the kings of England, and it was more like a treasure than a Museum – only occasionally here let foreign dignitaries.

In the seventeenth century, king Charles II Museum opens to public access. In the nineteenth century exposition, its organization and purpose are undergoing fundamental changes. Instead of chaotic collection of all sorts of rarities and curiosities, exhibited for the amusement of the public, the Museum is organized logically organized, historically accurate exposition of the development of arms in a historical perspective. The Museum grow, and in the tower there is not enough space to accommodate exhibits. In 1988, a collection of artillery moved to Fort Nelson in Portsmouth. In 1990, the main collection of the Armory moved to Leeds, and in the tower only those exhibits that are directly related to the history of this fortress.

In Leeds five galleries: War, Tournament, Oriental, Hunting, gallery of self-Defense and an impressive Steel hall. Here are samples of weapons of all eras and countries.

Royal armouries is positioning itself not just as a Museum of weapons. "If you think the Armory is just knives, guns, and armor behind the glass, think again". One of its main objectives, the Museum considers the organizational and educational work. "Our goal is to make Britain safer," written on the Museum's website. Armory works closely with the police, trying to reduce the number of weapons on the streets, to make life safer and to teach people how to solve conflicts peacefully.
