Meriken Park is located in the port area of Kobe. Its name comes from the word american ("American"). The Park offers a number of attractions – port tower, the Maritime Museum and the memorial to the victims of the great Hanshin earthquake of 1995. Part of the memorial is a fragment destroyed by an earthquake promenade, which reminds about what a destructive force claimed the lives of people.

In the center of the Park is the Maritime Museum, whose buildings resemble inflated with wind white sails. Its exposition is devoted to the history of the city of Kobe is an international port, open one of the first foreign ships, as well as the history of the Japanese and world shipbuilding. The exposition is located under the open sky. One of these specimens is the "Yamato-1" is an experimental ship that was built in the early 90-ies the company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation. The ship has been tested in Kobe Harbor in the summer of 1992, however, the complexity of the designs and expensive production slowed down the implementation of this development.

Half of the building of the Maritime Museum is the Museum of the Corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries, which manufactures a variety of vehicles and mechanical components, including jet planes, fast trains, helicopters and motorcycles. The visitors are offered to sit behind the wheel or the wheel of some of the exhibits.

It may seem that the port tower in Kobe reminds design engineer Vladimir Shukhov, including the famous radio tower on Shabolovka in Moscow. Indeed, the design of the Kobe port tower complies with the patent Shukhov and similar structures. Net building height of 108 meters in Kobe appeared in 1963, it was built by a company Nikken Sekkei. The combination of the Central core and the retina was so strong that it withstood the great Hanshin earthquake of 1995 a magnitude of 7 points. Currently it is used as an observation deck and is designed for 3,000 tourists a day.
