Very beautiful old Church of St. Margaret stands in the shadow of Westminster Abbey, both literally and figuratively. It was built in the XII century by the monks Benedictines as a parish Church for the inhabitants of nearby areas.
With 1486 by 1523, the Church was rebuilt and became the parish Church of the Palace of Westminster. She also was rebuilt later, in the XVIII and XIX centuries, but kept the style is perpendicular Gothic.
Special attention is attracted to the Eastern window of stained glass Flemish works 1509, made in honor of the betrothal of Catherine of Aragon by Henry VIII.
The Church installed a vertical sundial, dial the Eastern façade shows the time to astronomical (solar) noon, the dial on the Western front – the after noon.
Together with Westminster Palace and Abbey Church of St. Margaret is included in the world heritage list of UNESCO.
