Photo: Rice terraces Banaue
On the territory of more than 10,000 sq km at an altitude of 1524 meters above sea level in the mountains of Ishaga near the small town of Banaue on Luzon island, Philippines, 250 km from the capital, Manila you can find what local residents call the "eighth wonder of the world". The incredible beauty of its fields, located by the stairs on the mountain slopes. More than 3 thousand years ago the ancestors of the most ancient agricultural tribes of the people of Ifugao, the direct descendants of which still live in Banaue, transformed the harsh mountain landscape, creating livable territory. It is worth noting that these fields was done almost manually, only using primitive tools.
Today the fields are still used for rice cultivation.
