Urbis is a large modern exhibition centre in Manchester. It was opened in June 2002 as part of the reconstruction of market square (the quarter of the Millennium). The building has seven floors. The exposition begins at the top, where tourists raise the Elevator. To maintain a comfortable temperature in the building uses the latest technology: adiabatic cooling in summer and heating in winter.

Originally Urbis was conceived as a Museum depicting life of the city, this exhibition was located on five floors, and two more were placed under various exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. But the exposure was unattractive for tourists, attendance was extremely low, and the Museum has become a burden for the city. In 2004 it was decided to change the status of Urbis and from the Museum turned into an exhibition centre dedicated to British pop culture, the emphasis remains on events in Manchester. The Museum has cancelled admissions, and the number of tourists began to grow.

In 2010, Urbis was closed to visitors. From the city of Preston in Lancashire was moved to the Museum of football. The Museum reopened in July 2012.
