The Megaro gyzi Museum, also known as the Cultural centre Megaro gyzi, is located in Fira town in Santorini. It was founded in 1980 on the initiative and with the financial support of the Catholic diocese of Santorini.

The Museum is located in a beautiful old mansion from the 17th century, which formerly belonged to the Venetian family Gysi and of itself is of exceptional historical and architectural value. The building is a typical example of Cycladic architecture. The mansion was donated to the Catholic diocese of Santorini to create a cultural center. This is one of the few ancient buildings that managed to survive after a major earthquake in 1956. The building was renovated so as to preserve its architectural features and original character. Some changes have been made, in accordance with the functional requirements necessary to accommodate exhibition space and cultural activities.

The exposition of the Museum is very interesting and extensive. Here is a collection of original engravings of the 16th and 17th centuries and the traditional national costumes. And interesting collection of paintings, perfectly illustrating the life of the inhabitants of Santorini and a picturesque landscape of the island (presents works by Greek and foreign artists). Exhibited in the Museum, and thousands of rare public and private documents and historical manuscripts (16th-17th century), introducing visitors to the culture and different aspects of social and political life of Santorini. Most of the documents submitted in the Greek language, but there are also documents in Italian, Turkish and Latin. There is a fine collection of pictures, among which there are rare instances of world-renowned photographer Pintos Vikentios, with the image of Santorini in the period 1930-1956.

The main purpose of the Museum is to promote as Cycladic culture in General and the traditions of Santorini in particular. On a regular basis it hosts various concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions of painting and photography exhibitions, film festivals, lectures and other cultural events.
