The Manila Theatre Photo: Manila Theatre "The Met"

The Manila Theatre "the met" (The Manila Metropolitan Theatre) was built in the 1930-ies by architect Juan Arellano. The building, designed in the art Deco style, with a capacity of 1670 viewers (846 in the orchestra, 116 in the bed and 708 in balcony). During the legendary Battle of Manila in 1945, the theatre was severely damaged part of the roof and walls were bombed. Then, after the reconstruction carried out by the Americans, the building has long been vacant and not subjected to adequate care. Only in 1978 it was newly renovated, but unfortunately I was out of work. Recently at the rear of the theatre were built bus stop and Parking, and the administration of Manila with the support of the National Committee for culture and the Arts has finalized the plan to revive the theatre.

The sculpture, installed at the facade, is a creation of Italian sculpture Francesco Riccardo Monti, who lived in Manila from 1930 until his death in 1958. He worked closely with Juan Arellano. The walls of the hall and the interior of the theatre is decorated with stylized embossed ornaments Philippine plants, the artist Isabelo Tampinco. In 2010, the President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Manila mayor Alfredo lim inaugurated the building of the theatre after the next phase of restoration work. Theatre "the met" is on Avenue to Padre Burgos, near the Central Post Office Manila.
