Almus is an ancient fortress that was once part of the same settlement. He, in turn, is located on the territory of the town of Lom, namely, in the residential quarter of Kalamata.

The fortress ruins are a monument of culture. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the scientists and authorities, archaeological excavations were regularly conducted for four years – from 1986 to 1990. Pursued their group of employees of the Historical Museum of Scrap.

About Almus information is not much, most is contained in ancient sources and in several Western European maps of the city were designated in the period from the XVI-XVIII centuries.

Archaeological studies in which it was studied about 70 meters of the fortress wall in the West showed that the width of the wall was more than two meters, and the length is about two hundred. The shape of the fortress resembled irregular Pentagon. The approximate size of the construction can generally be described as such: two hundred and fifty meters from the North, two hundred meters from East and West, and 220 meters in the South. In the corners stood a round tower. The total area of the building exceeds four hectares.

In addition, during the excavations, scientists have discovered many artifacts that can be traced to antiquity and the middle ages. Today they can be seen in the municipal Historical Museum of Scrap.
