The monument to the victims of the intervention is located in Murmansk, on the Central square of the city called Five Corners, which is one of the oldest in the city.
Spring March 6, 1918 in the city of Murmansk with the English ship called "glory" was planted marine infantry squad in the amount of 170 people. A day later, next to the city Harbor came the cruiser "Cochran", belonging to England, and the cruiser "Admiral" from France. From this point on put into action foreign intervention in the Russian North.
The monument to the Victims of the intervention was the first memorial monument in Murmansk, built on the funds collected by the inhabitants of the town by subscription to the tenth anniversary of the October revolution – almost 11 years after the founding of the city. The establishment of the monument was conceived on the common grave of the fallen soldiers in combat uprising against the whites in the city of Murmansk, which took place on 21 February 1920. At the same place were found dead prisoners, prisoners once in okanishi prison. In the Central part of the city are burial 136. Their bodies were buried in a vacant lot called Freedom square, which got its new name – the area of Victims of the intervention (or the revolution). Seven years later, it was decided to build on the common grave memorial, the author of which became famous at the time the engineer Savchenko And.. The author's idea was to highlight the utilitarian part, submitted by the special tribune for guests of honor for leadership during the various celebrations or demonstrations. According to the plan, steps should be a statue of Lenin, but this plan failed to implement.
The memorial was built by the hands of the Murmansk builders of reinforced concrete, which took only two months. The decision of the monument was carried out in the spirit of constructivism, which gives the impression of elegance and lightness of the entire structure. In the fall of November 7, 1927 all residents of the city gathered at the ceremonial opening of the memorial, which was luxuriously decorated with slogans and banners, and lots of flags. On the highest platform bearers were equipped with red banners and a brass band. During the ceremony, the residents of the city heard fiery speeches that literally permeated the hearts of its citizens and called on the proletariat to be worthy and grateful memory of their comrades who fell heroically in battle for the cause of the people.
Throughout 1930 the perimeter of the monument was laid square, while on the sandy wasteland appeared two fountains, bright lawns, benches, and planting in the form of shrubs and flowers. Judging by the size of the green zone, in the past, it was significantly less than that existing at the moment. In the Northern part was once a large and amazingly beautiful two-storey building, built of wood – a location different kind of Soviet institutions. During the great Patriotic war, the Nazis completely destroyed the building, and after the war the whole territory on which it was located, just attached to the area of the square. This square has become a favorite pastime for residents of the Murmansk. Throughout the year, here you can find a lot of people. Especially this place is beautiful in summer, when the flowers bloom, the number and varieties of which literally is variable.
Today the monument is painted in white color that would distinguish him among the dark green background of foliage. Near the monument there are several rows of concrete columns, which are interconnected by chains that are blooming bright daisies, completely enclosing the memorial. In the Central part of the pedestal that supports the monument, a stone block on which there is text for the victims of intervention.
In the past, with an elevated deck of the memorial you can see most of the city. Today, because of multi-storey buildings are a significant part of the review is closed.
