New York aquarium is the oldest continually operating aquarium in the USA. In October 2012 hurricane sandy severely hurt him, but in may 2013 the attraction is partially reopened.

The first aquarium was located in battery Park – it was built there in 1896. Then the audience was shown a total of 150 specimens of fish and animals. Subsequently, when the Director of the institution became known zoologist Charles Haskins Townsend, the collection has grown significantly and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. In 1957, the aquarium moved to its present location – literally on the ocean beach of Coney island.

This is a romantic location almost destroyed the tank, when the coast was hit by hurricane sandy. Sea water rushed into the basement of all buildings on six acres of parkland, damaged the power supply, resulting in killing many fish. A small group of staff, who was then in the aquarium, we were able to save the rest of the inhabitants. Cleaning and renovation, which cost $ 6 million, lasted seven months and still not finished, but part of the Park is open to the public.

In particular, the reconstructed Aqua theatre under the open sky, where impressive performances with California sea lions. These intelligent marine animals with visible pleasure perform various tricks: crawl, dive, "serve", play with a ball and ring.

In the section "Sea cliffs" devyanostoletiyu band mimics the North Pacific coast – where visitors admire Blackfoot penguins, seals, sea otters and walruses. Kids love to watch the feeding of animals, turned into a kind of show: walruses suck herring from a huge "straws", the penguins jump up the fish and otters play with the servants in the ball. In "Sacred hall" visitors are amazed at the diversity of the underwater world: here you can see the inhabitants of the coral reefs, fishes from African freshwater lakes and flooded forests of Brazil.
