In 1791, July 14, on the left Bank of the river under the name Shelon was held as a railway center battle. This historical event happened in the village Kirino and the village of Celebici. The villages are located in Soletsky district, in the Novgorod region. The battle took place between Moscow troops, commanded by Governor Daniel Holm, and Novgorod militia headed by Dmitry Berezkin (son of Martha Posadnitsa).

In the second half of the 15th century increased pressure from Moscow Principality at the Novgorod Republic. A group of boyars, at the head of which stood the Martha Boretskaya supported the Union with Lithuania, which, in turn, promised to help in the fight against the pretensions of the Grand Prince of Moscow. Ivan III tried to influence Novgorod and diplomatic means with the assistance of representatives of the Church. Metropolitan rebuked the people of Novgorod in the betrayal and urged to renounce the "Latin States", but the invasion of the Church only increased the differences in Novgorod. The actions of Novgorod in Moscow was regarded as "the betrayal of Orthodoxy". Ivan III decided to organize a "crusade" against Novgorod. The religious color of this campaign was to unite all parties and to compel the princes to send troops on "sacred cause". Large antikavkazskaya propaganda was carried out by Prince of Moscow, was sent "razmernye certificates". Novgorod has decided to assert their independence. Despite internal strife, in Novgorod had collected a huge army, numbering up to 40 thousand people. However, it consisted mostly of "potters and plotnicov". Leadership over the army carried Dmitry Boretsky and Basil Casimir. Despite the numerical superiority of the Novgorod army, a decisive victory managed to win the Muscovites. From Novgorod sources that at first the citizens were able to use numerical superiority. But at the Novgorod infantry struck noble cavalry, in the campaign she was the main striking force of Muscovites and Ivan III.

The trial of the defeated was quick and ruthless. Four mayors (among whom was Dmitry Boretsky) executed, most of the representatives of the Novgorod nobility were subjected to severe repression, a simple host released.

The defeat at Shelon made inevitable the end of the independence of Novgorod and the Novgorod Republic. Novgorod soon became a part of Muscovy, allegiance to Moscow nobles swore.

Almost nothing has changed over the past five hundred years as a railway center of the battle. All also carries gray water in the Ilmen beautiful and stately Shelon. All green and canopies its banks. Standing here is the village of Kirino in fact merged with Velebita. Life goes on. Being on a railway center field, feel that the story itself comes.

In 2009 December 8, in the village called Kirino in the place where presumably there was a battle between the armies of Moscow and Novgorod, was erected a Memorial. After was held the ceremony of its consecration, the priests Nikolay Epishev and Mikhail Biryukov celebrated a Requiem service in memory of the fallen railway center in the battle, not dividing-warriors friends and foes, Muscovites and Novgorodians.

In 2001 July 7 in the village of Celebici the divine Liturgy. After the service, a Procession took place, and solemnly installed oak Cross, reaching a height of six meters. Before hoisting the Cross was consecrated. After the service in the town of Soltsy was a historical reading, where he performed eminent historians of Great Novgorod, St.-Petersburg, Moscow and other cities.
