The most striking architectural landmark Zarechnaya part of Nizhny Novgorod (Sormovo) is the Transfiguration Cathedral, built in 1903 by the famous architect Paul Malinowski.

In the late nineteenth century in the ancient village Sormovo that were near Nizhny Novgorod, booming industry and the temple, built in 1882 in honor of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, could no longer accommodate the congregation.
