The national gallery, the building of which was built in 1836. in strict classical style of pink granite, is one of the main attractions of Oslo. Built by German architects Chimerae (father and son), it became the main art Museum of Norway and an integral part of the National Museum of art.

It contains the best work of impressionism and Norwegian national romanticism. The most popular exhibit in the gallery – the painting “the Scream” is an outstanding work of Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. The Museum also exhibits works and other Norwegian artists of the second half of the XIX-XX centuries, Visitors can admire some works of van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse.

In the small Museum at the National gallery you can buy unusual and colorful Souvenirs.
