Limeni Photo: Limeni

Limeni is a small cute town on the southern coast of the Peloponnese (Mani, nom Laconia). It is situated on the shores of the Gulf about 75 km South of Sparta and just a few kilometers from Areopolis, the port of which he actually is.

Limeni is an incredibly picturesque village with charming old stone houses, towers, literally overhanging cliffs, picturesque harbour, where in the summer moored lots of yachts, excellent restaurants and taverns with excellent cuisine. Here you will find crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean sea, beautiful landscapes and the atmosphere of genuine warmth and hospitality of the locals. This is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing holiday. However, it should be borne in mind that the choice of housing in Limeni very small and the book should take care in advance.

Limeni is the home town of one of the most influential clans of Manitou – Mavromichalis, who played a key role in the formation of the modern Greek state. On the initiative of local authorities ancestral castle of Mavromichalis, which, in fact, is an important historical and architectural monument, was restored almost in the same form as it was 200 years ago. Today its walls is a great hotel.

Local attraction are the ancient caves in which people lived in the Neolithic period, and in the period of domination in the region, the Ottoman Empire was hidden the so-called Lefty (armed rebels, who fought against Turkish oppression). Definitely worth a visit and the cradle of the Greek revolution - the famous Areopolis.

The picturesque town with its narrow cobbled streets, beautiful churches, old mansions and towers very popular among tourists.
