The monastery Moronic is located in the East of the island, on the southern shore of Skadar lake. It is 13 kilometers from the border with Albania and 19 kilometers from the Montenegrin Virpazar.
The first mention of the construction of the monastery Moronic can be found in the letter to the ruler of the Principality of Zeta balshi III. According to his desire and completely his own funds, was built the Church of the assumption, consecrated in honor of the unique icons of the blessed virgin of three hands, in the period 1404 in 1417. Like all churches of the era Balsic, the Church is a one-cupola building small in size with three microconchs. In addition, it was additionally added the chapel of St. John of Damascus. First internal Church decoration was painted various frescoes depicting saints. In our time from the previous painting was barely visible traces.
From the original buildings have been preserved only part of the monastery complex. It includes: the stone fence, which is decorated with a monumental entrance gate; private building in the East; the refectory on the South; the remains of a four-storey tower, on top of which was a chapel. Before the monastery housed the Church of the Transfiguration, but today it represents only ruins. Existed a monastery for very long, as after coming to power of the Turks he quickly emptied, and was virtually destroyed.
Partial restoration of the monastery was carried out in 1963 – was restored the dome of the Church. In 1985, followed by archaeological work, in which were found the remains of another Church located on the highest point of the island. It was the Church of the Transfiguration, built around the same time that the Church of the assumption. Near Moronica island is Tomoana on the territory of which also were found the remains of a Church with a distinctive triangulos basis.
The revival of the monastery was in 1990-ies. During this period, the rector appointed hieromonk Jovan (Culibrk), the famous Serbian Orthodox publicist who worked on radio and in the magazine Svetigora.
