The main exhibition hall of Pilsen called the Gallery and is a non-profit organizations funded by the city authorities. This complex is subject to the city hall and created with the aim of promoting culture to the masses. It was founded in 1991 under the name "X-Center", which is derived from the abbreviation ICS. This acronym stands for simple: information and cultural center. 10 years later the name of the institution, it was decided to change into more understandable and transparent: a Gallery of Pilsen.
City exhibition hall is located in a roomy, light-filled building on the main square of Pilsen. This building is property of the city Council. It includes a spacious showrooms, basements, reserved for the storage of works of art, and patio.
In the sphere of interests of employees of the Gallery is contemporary art. It also organizes exhibitions of contemporary Czech and foreign artists. This Museum is famous for the fact that almost every new project launches colorful catalogs, which is very popular among art historians.
In addition to paintings, the Gallery shows works from related fields. Here you can see sculptures, a collection of furniture in the style of cubism, installations, graphics, posters, objects associated with visual poetry and so on.
