Gukovsky Museum of miners ' work today is perhaps one of the rare museums in Russia, in detail and demonstrate the stages of development of a mining craft, the intricacies of the profession miner, his difficulties and dangers. The history of commercial coal mining dates back to the XVIII century, when he reigned manual labor, and up to this time, reinforced by a wealth of factual material – nearly two dozen different collections and more than twenty thousand items reflecting the working life and exploits of miners, their life.
The Museum began in the 50s, with a small exposure, open in school № 4 of the city Gukova geography teacher, an avid traveler and historian Leonid I. Mikulin. His immense enthusiasm and dedication helped transform a humble school exhibition into a full-fledged Museum of national importance. In 1965, the enlarged collection was moved in the House of culture "Anthracite". The Museum received a national title and has immortalized the name of its Creator – L. I. Mikulin.
New incoming documents and things had to be put in the vaults, so the idea of the new building. In may 2000, the idea was realized in built specifically for the sprawling Museum building with 24 exhibition halls and a total area of over 2000 sq m with high confidence recreated the entire process of coal mining in layouts and dioramas from the place of issue of documents on the change directly to the production of "black gold". Interesting halls devoted to the nature of the region, archaeological and paleontological finds, household items. Not forgotten the years of the great Patriotic war. An exhibition of paintings by local artists. Constant delight calls the exhibition "Golden Khokhloma".
