The national Park of Gran Piedra stretches North-East from Santiago de Cuba. The unique beauty of the plains and mountains and exotic lush tropical vegetation, the gentle blue sea and mild climate, fertile attract travelers and tourists from all corners of the earth.
The area of the Park - 3357 hectares, and it owes its name to a huge rock weighing about 65 tons. Rock Gran Piedra became part of the highest in the country, the mountain massif of the Sierra Maestra. Disputes about the origin of this giant boulder is going so far. Geologists don't understand, where did the rock Gran Piedra, which means "big stone". Its parameters 25 m height, 51 m length and 30 m width. Here you can find exotic birds cartacuba, tocororo, hawk-Sparrow hawk. Flora of the Park consists of 222 species of ferns and 352 species of orchids. Cypress, pine, eucalyptus, fruit and peach trees, Apple trees – these trees grow everywhere, and in harvest time you can taste the delicious fruits.
It is close to the tourist centre of the same name, the Observatory, the floricultural sector and numerous abandoned coffee plantations.
