Museum of the historical development of the city and sea fleet Severomorsk was established by decision of the administration of ZATO Severomorsk in the autumn of the 2nd of October 1996. October 26, 1996, a solemn ceremony of opening of the Museum, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet.

The first year of the Museum was a period of formation and approval of the main directions, as well as the basic methods of work of the young cultural institutions. Initially, the Museum's staff consisted of only four people, entrusted with the main task concerning the collection of exhibits for the emergence of the first exhibition. In this difficult case has extended a helping hand to the military-historical Museum of the red banner Northern fleet, who gave the temporary use of photographs and objects that tell about the past of the city and development of its Navy. In addition support was provided by many agencies and organizations of the city, and just city residents, who were particularly interested in the past of his small homeland. Thanks to the assistance given to the young Museum, the first exhibition hall gradually began to boom stands and showcases. After two years, the Museum received a gift of some of the exhibits of the famous Rooms of labour glory of the builders of the fleet that became the basis for the emergence of a new exhibition, which was a tribute to the time of construction of the city. Over time the state Museum staff only increased.

Literally since its opening, the Museum has become an important part of the cultural component of the city. Guests of Severomorsk began acquaintance with this city just to visit the Museum, which was visited by the heads of all critical government agencies are not only Navy, but throughout the country, including representatives from the public Fund, for example, Andrew, and folk artists Vladimir Konkin and Vladimir Gostyukhin, and other figures of art and culture.

In the first room of the Museum tells the story of the distant past of the small village Vaenga, as well as about the history of the development of the flotilla. In the hall devoted to Military glory, the history of underwater, surface and air forces of the Northern fleet during the great Patriotic war. In city hall there is the exposition, which was composed of several sections: the work of urban industrial enterprises, construction history of the city, the modern work culture, healthcare, education, consumer services and a section that tells about the athletic achievements of residents. Here the author focuses on the present of the city of Severomorsk, as well as his recent past.

Continued operation of the Department of culture and international relations of the administration of ZATO Severomorsk Museum has at its disposal modern technical equipment. Need a mobile structure mounted in the halls of Military glory, which are voluminous exhibits; all Museum showcases equipped with specially designed for spot lighting.

The Museum has a room for temporary exhibitions, which display works of graphic art and painting, as well as photographs, children's items and decorative arts. The hall is equipped with multimedia equipment and video equipment that allows to carry out thematic talks or lectures and cultural events on a high level.

At the moment the Museum Fund consists of about four thousand exhibits of the main Fund and about two thousand units of scientific support. The Museum has a staff of 12 people, each of which became a true master of his profession. Through their work in the Museum annually about five hundred events, employs 15 education programs and cycles, 8 Amateur associations and clubs.

In addition to the inherent scientific outreach and educational activities, the North sea Museum of the history of the city and the Navy carries a function of military-Patriotic and methodological directions. The Museum has repeatedly received awards for the upbringing of the young generation, as well as military work in military units.
