Manavgat is on both sides of the Manavgat river in the same valley. The Manavgat river originates on the Western slopes of the mountains of Taurus, and on, flowing on the mountain slopes and flows into the reservoir – Manavgat Barai and Oymapinar. Above the city a few miles on the river in a natural way formed several waterfalls. The river then flows through the city, then enters the coastal plain and finally empties into the Mediterranean sea. Water Manavgat deep and clean, they are filled by underground springs in the mountain canyons through which the river passes. So even in summer the water in the river is cold.

The Manavgat river divides the city into two parts. The waterfall and the river Delta is the most significant nature of this place. In addition, irresistible in its beauty artificial reservoir another smaller waterfall, surrounded by huge cliffs, and the area surrounding it to the South of the region, in a valley between Torosani, where flows the river Manavgat. The plain covers an area of 2500 square kilometers and is very high yielding in Antalya. It grows mainly cotton, but also barley, rye, wheat, and 45 varieties of fruits and vegetables. Along with this here in recent years have been breeding hothouse flowers. The Eastern part of the plain is occupied by banana plantations.

The name comes from Manavgat words Maneuva (which means in the ancient language of love "the temple of the goddess"). In different periods of history, the town was used as a common Holy place for Seleucia and side. In antiquity the area was not occupied, the first-time traveller Evliya çelebi, who stayed near today's village of Guneydogu in Sarysu district, informs us in his notes about hunting tigers. After the battle of Malazgirt in 1071, the Turkmen nomads in large groups fought their way through the Taurus mountains to the Mediterranean coast and finally settled here. Turkmens took the Western side of the river Manavgat, Titiokura, while the Senir Bay settled on the East side. The settlement took the form of an estate that has evolved over time, the population increased, and in 1913 here, Manavgat, was founded a district town of the same name.

Beautiful Manavgat waterfall is the main and most visited place on the Manavgat river is one of the symbols of the country. It flows, falling from height, pose in front of tourists scenic picture. Falls in 2010 was visited by about one million tourists.
