The Palace of QUINTA da Regaleira is located in the old part of Sintra and listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The first owner of the Palace was Antonio Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, so the Palace is also called the "Palace of Monteiro the millionaire". In Sintra there is a lot of palaces, but the Palace of QUINTA da Regaleira is one of the first places where you tend to get tourists.

This Palace has seen many owners. In 1892 the owners were barons of Regaleira, a family of rich merchants from Porto. A year later the land was purchased by Carvalho Monteiro. Monteiro wanted to build the Palace, for its architectural details would reflect his interests and Outlook. With the help of Italian architect Luigi Manini, he managed to implement his plan. On 4 acres was built complex consisting of unusual constructions, in which, as was supposed, were hidden in the symbols of alchemy, Freemasonry, the knights Templar and the society of Rosicrucians. The architecture of the complex is mixed Romanesque and Gothic styles, Renaissance and Manueline. The construction of this masterpiece began in 1904, and was practically completed in 1910. The Palace has twice changed its owners. In 1997, the Palace was bought by the municipality of Sintra, and a year later, after restoration work, the Palace was opened for public visits and excursions.

The Palace is a five – story building, which is located at the bottom of the Park. The facade is replete pinnacles in Gothic style gargoyles. Before the main facade of the Palace is a Catholic chapel in the Romanesque style, inside is richly decorated with frescoes and stucco designs.

A large area of the complex is the Park, which is dotted with paths and trails. Under the upper part of the Park tunnels that connect the caves and wells. On its territory there are two man-made lake and several fountains.
