The small resort village of Assos is one of the most picturesque and charming places in Kefalonia. The village is situated on the West coast, about 36 km from the capital Argostoli, on the narrow isthmus, which is part of the Peninsula.
ASOs very small town, and the number of its population is barely 100 people. However, the warm hospitality of the local people, traditional Greek architecture, narrow streets and hilly terrain covered with pines and cypresses attract lovers of quiet rest. Cozy cafes and taverns are located mainly on the promenade and the main street of ASOs.
The main historical attraction of ASOs is the Venetian castle, situated on a steep rocky promontory. Once majestic fortification was built in the late 16th century. Its location was not chosen by chance, as inaccessible natural rock had great strategic importance, giving superior protection and a good overview of water expanses. Unfortunately, to our days well preserved, only the massive walls of the castle, and the buildings inside the fortress were in poor condition. To the main gate of the castle is a fairly good road which is accessible both by car and by foot. From the top of the castle offers stunning panoramic views of the Bay and surrounding area.
Close to the Pumps is the "pearl of Kefalonia – Myrtos beach, which is the owner of the so-called "Blue flag of UNESCO.
ASOs is a great place for an unforgettable vacation. Warm sun, crystal clear waters of the Ionian sea and stunning scenic landscapes of the local area create a special atmosphere of comfort and coziness. You will definitely want to come back here again.
