Volumes Photo: Volimes

Volumes – a charming mountain village located in the Northern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos in the picturesque pine forests, olive groves and vineyards. Volimes is located about 30 km North-West of the homonymous capital of the island at the height of 400-480 m above sea level and offers amazing views and fantastic panoramic views of the coast of Zakynthos, the vast expanses of the Ionian sea and the island of Kefalonia.

Volumes – traditional Greek village with its own unique flavor and atmosphere of genuine warmth and hospitality of the locals. Despite the fact that during a strong earthquake in 1953 Volumes has suffered greatly, there is still preserved a lot of old houses with the characteristic architecture and ancient churches, including the Church of Agia Paraskevi with magnificent murals and beautiful ancient icons. Volimes is the ideal place to relax away from the bustle and crowds of tourists, enjoying the quiet and unhurried pace of life of local residents. And although in recent years tourism here began to slowly grow, the choice of housing is still very small and the book should take care in advance.

Volumes is also an excellent starting point for exploring the North part of the island and its attractions. Special attention deserve the fantastic beauty Navagio Bay, located a few kilometers from Volimes on the West coast of the island, and the famous Blue caves near Cape Skinari. Both these attractions are available to visit only by boat (the best place to organize a tour from the Harbor of Agios Nikolaos). Definitely worth a visit and the monastery Anafonitria (14-15 th century), where he spent the last years of his life, the patron Saint Dionysius of Zakynthos, as well as the monastery of St. Andrew with a beautiful ancient frescoes and the monastery of St. George, built in the 16th century. Very interesting and Museum Park Askos Stone Park.

Volumes is renowned for its handmade lace, carpets, ceramics, as well as excellent quality honey, wine and cheese. All this (and much more) you can buy in local shops, of which there are many.
