The votive Church (Votive Church) is a Roman Catholic Church located in the centre of Vienna on the Ringstrasse, close to the University. Is one of the most important neo-Gothic religious architectural sites in the world. The height of the votive Church is 99 meters.

The decision to build the Church was made after February 18, 1853, a journeyman who attacked the Emperor Franz Joseph I with a knife. The knife stuck into the button, so the Emperor was still alive. Brother of the Emperor urged people to collect donations to build a Church in Vienna in gratitude for the miraculous escape of the Emperor. It is known that the donations contributed approximately 300,000 people. By April 1854, all the donations were collected, after which was a competition among architects. Preference was given to the project by Heinrich Ferstel. The first stone was laid by Emperor Franz Joseph on 24 April 1856 in the presence of many people, clergy, bishops and archbishops. The construction of the Church lasted for over 20 years. Interior decoration continued for another 3 years. So, 24 April 1879, took place the solemn opening of the votive Church.

By order of the Emperor in the Church housed the soldiers who arrived in the capital after the revolution of 1848. Votive Church was one of the first buildings on the Ringstrasse, and was in the square Maximiliansplatz.

Votive Church built in the Gothic style. This is evidenced by the turret and spire of the transept facade, pillars and window-rose. The Church consists of a main and side naves, which is two times lower main.

The votive Church is built of white Sandstone, so it needed frequent repairs. Large-scale restoration was carried out after the Second World war.
