Yeah – a small mountain village situated within the famous Italian resort of Alta Valtellina at 1,550 metres above sea level and surrounded by some of the most beautiful Alpine peaks – Ortles, Gran Zebra, Tercero, Cevedale, San Matteo, Continue, Chimi Piazzi, etc. While the CAA is not yet affected by mass tourism and its attendant negative effects. On the contrary, you can enjoy a calm and peaceful atmosphere and relax in the lap of nature.
On the territory of the village there is a small peat bog, Palaccio, protected by the state and is of interest from a Botanical point of view. I must say that today the moor virtually disappeared from the territory of Italy because of the constant processes of drainage and earthworks, as well as due to climate change. But in ESO survived one of these rare ecosystems. Unfortunately, unlike the majority of peatlands in Northern Europe, Palaccio is on the verge of extinction. His natural state was disrupted by several drying processes, taken between 1920 and 1930 years. The swamp is surrounded by meadows, pastures and pine forest, where you can see pine, larch, fir, and birch. And not far from Palaccio is located in Fort Massaccio, built between 1909 and 1912 years to guard the borders with Austria.
Another attraction OIG is Fort Venini, long time were in a derelict state, and now attracts tourists. It was recently reconstructed, restored rooms and towers. The history of the Fort and surrounding areas is closely linked with the history of the Second World war here in the Alps.
And not far from the OIG are medieval tower of Torre di Frase – expressive monument of history. Until recently these were the most advanced military outposts in the defense of the city of Bormio.
