Museum Francisco Tavarish Proenca Jr. is a former Episcopal Palace. The Museum is named after its founder, Francisca, Tavarish proenca Oliveira Alves Garcia, Jr., a prominent archaeologist.

The original building of the Episcopal Palace was built in 1596-1598, and in the style of Gothic. The Palace was built by decree of Nuno de Noronha, Bishop of Guarda, on the pediment of the portal there is an inscription about it. Later, in the XVIII century restoration works were carried out, and the Palace acquired Baroque traits. In addition to the second residence of the Bishop of Guarda, 1771-1831, the Palace served as the administrative center of the episcopate of Castelo Branco. In 1910, Francisco Tavares proenca Oliveira Alves Garcia Jr. gave his collection to the Museum, and the Museum was opened in 1971 and named in his honor.

The Museum collection is quite extensive, has more than 5,000 exhibits, among which there are archaeological finds, furniture, coins, tapestries and sculptures. Castelo Branco is famous for its embroidered linen bedspreads and embroidered silk thin quilts. It is worth noting that the embroidery on these products is done manually. The Museum displays samples of such products, which make up a large part of the Museum's collection. The excursion includes a visit to the workshops where visitors can learn the whole process of making quilts, starting from the process of production and processing of flax, embroidery and finishing. Also among the exhibits are the vestments of the clergy. Lovers of archaeology will be interesting to see jewelry from the Iron age, fragments of Bronze age structures, exhibits the Neolithic and Paleolithic, as well as epigraphic monuments of the Roman era.
