The city of Viseu, located on a hill known not only because it is one of the largest cities in Europe without a railway stations, but also the fact that in the 16th century it was one of the most important schools of painting Portugal, known for such outstanding artists as a landscape painter Gaspard and Your Vasco Fernandes, known as Grana-Vasco.

Near Viseu Cathedral is the Museum of the Gran Vasco. Its first Director - Francisco de Almeida Moreira was an avid collector of works of art of different directions and has devoted much of his life to collecting works by Portuguese artists.

Museum Almeida Moreira is arranged in the home of Francisco de Almeida Moreira, where he lived his entire life. Under a will, after his death, the house became the city. The house and its entire collection was inherited by the city of Viseu, in 1939.

The Museum building is built in the Moorish style. Inside the Museum we can enjoy the modern art and the library, which contains classical literature and manuscripts Almeida Moreira. Among the Museum's collection – the product of a classic porcelain and faience XVII-XVIII century, sculptures of national and furniture twentieth century, paintings, ceramics. Near the Museum is the garden where you can see a beautiful sculpture of woman and child.
