The Museum of Lesya Ukrainka in the Crimean resort town of Yalta is one of four museums in Ukraine, dedicated to the great poet. The Museum is located on Catherine street, 8, in the former lordly mansion of the widow of E. F. Lisinskog.

Lesya Ukrainka (real name Larisa Petrovna Kosach-Kvitka) from early childhood was painful and problematic child. In 10 years, the future poet became ill very serious form of bone tuberculosis, due to which the doctors recommended that parents of L. Ukrainka to keep her away from the cold. So in the winter, she left the house and moved South to their homes, she returned in late spring.

In the early 70s, on the eve of the 100 anniversary from the birthday of the poet, in the city of Yalta was founded by the initiative group on creation of L. Ukrainka Museum, which was erected a monument to the writer, a memorial plaque on the house where in 1897 she lived, and started collecting exhibits. The persecution of national intelligentsia, which took place in the 70-ies of XX century, ceased work on the Museum. In the house where it was planned to establish a Museum opened the exhibition "Museum of pre-revolutionary progressive Ukrainian and Russian culture". In September 1993, thanks to the initiative of the Yalta city society "Prosvita" in Yalta city Executive Committee had decided to give exposition "Lesya Ukrainka and the Crimea" status "Museum of Lesya Ukrainka".

L. Ukrainka created a whole cycle of poems "Crimean memories", "Crimean memories," drama "Iphigenia in Tauris" and the story "Above the sea". A Museum dedicated to the outstanding poetess, was opened to the 120th anniversary since its birth In the exposition of the Museum of Lesya Ukrainka presents: lifetime editions of works of the writer, the pictures her family and friends, furniture of the late 19th - early 20th century, the figures of the last quarter of the 19th century and Ukrainian national costumes.

Today Yalta Museum of Lesya Ukrainka, one of the main attractions of the city, visiting which you can learn more detail about life of the great writer and her work.
