Near the city of Alatyr, between Central Park Tale "and veterans Park is the Church of the exaltation of the Holy cross, built in 1826 on the site of the original wooden Church.
In our day the exaltation Church adorns the center of Alatyr, and in the eighteenth century this place was the edge, much of which was occupied city cemetery. On the territory of the necropolis and was placed near the temple, assigned to the Theotokos Cathedral Christmas. The main altar of the Church was consecrated in honor of the exaltation of the Holy cross, and the side chapels in the name of All Saints and Mother of God "burning Bush". The temple was built in the typical style for the province of the nineteenth century. The architectural decoration of the facades is made in a classic Russian style - large triple window, stepped cornices, rust and pilasters. In Soviet times the Church becomes the parish and the cemetery is built up with new objects.
Alatyr Vozdvizhenskaya Church during the period of the persecution and destruction of religious buildings, is almost never closed, allowing it to maintain in the interior of monumental painting of the nineteenth century and the old icons of the eighteenth century. In the immediate vicinity of the Church there are three graves: collegiate Councilor J. D. Rudnev, S. I. Chernyakova and gravestone with Latin letters is a unique case of a Catholic burial at the Orthodox cemetery. In 1996, the temple was built a small Church and consecrated in honor of the Holy Martyr John the Warrior.
