The ethnographic Museum in Burgas is located in the former home of a prominent Bulgarian public figure Dimitar Todorov Bakalova. This building built in 1873 and is still in the typical architectural style of that era.

The Museum is located near the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The first floor of the building is the interior of a typical house Burgas nineteenth century, a special place reserved for ladies fashion of the period. Spacious foyer, as a rule, may be occupied by one of the temporary exhibitions.

On the second floor of the Museum is a large collection of traditional costumes of each ethnographic group of the Burgas region. Among them rupcy, Zagorze, trance, aliani, mountaineers and even Bulgarians are settlers who came from the Aegean and Eastern Thrace. In addition, at the exhibition you can see the unique costumes for ritual ceremonies and various decorations of the nineteenth century, which are also associated with folk festivals and ritual practices. All this is true only for the region of Burgas. Speaking of rituals, it is worth mentioning the fire and the ritual of walking the incandescent coals. Also presents original wedding outfits, which were compulsory for brides village of Zidarovo.

Every summer Burgas ethnographic Museum has held an annual Summer school of folk arts, crafts and modern arts and crafts. From 1 July to 31 August each weekday morning, craftsmen side by side with professional artists teach adults and children the art of painting on ceramics, silk and glass, as well as help to create decorative panels, and more. Anyone can try their hand at the Potter's wheel or in knitting. Here you can see the process of making color self-sewed Bulgarian rugs. In addition, Museum staff organizes traditional gatherings, where women in traditional costumes sing, embroider, knit or wind the wool.
