The Church of St. John the Evangelist - one of the attractions of the city of Mirgorod, Poltava region. It is located in the suburb of Licence, on the street Luchansky, 33.

In the early twentieth century in the city there were four Orthodox community. All the temples were located in the Central part of Mirgorod. Since the settlement Licence had its temple, in 1912, one of its residents, a wealthy tradesman I. Kupenko (nickname Shapar), decided to fulfill their dream to start a Church, making significant donations of money and building materials. The icons of the iconostasis for the Church wrote I. Chitika.

October 9, 1912, in memory of Saint John the Evangelist, was laid the first stone of the future Church. What time lasted the construction of the temple is unknown, but the first Liturgy in the new Church was held the following year.

In 1937 the Church was closed. Its dome and bell tower were destroyed much earlier, in 1928 or 1929 part of the Church's belongings were taken by the people, some were burned, and the iconostasis was dismantled. The complete destruction of the Shrine could be tested in the ' 30s, if not the collective farm Chairman P. Kovalenko, who had the idea to organize in the building of the temple granary. This is what has saved the original Church building from complete destruction during the anti-religious campaign.

During the famine in the Church housed a shelter for children from the surrounding villages. Near the Shrine opened a memorable sign to the victims of hunger.

The second life of the Church of St. John the Evangelist received in 1943, during the German occupation. Then the service resumed, the locals returned the icons in the temple was carried out cosmetic repairs. Since that time the Church has opened to parishioners.

A small but very beautiful wooden Church of St. John the Evangelist stands on a hill near a quiet river, so the sound of her bells heard far enough.
