Lake Kankaria Photo: Lake Kankaria

The biggest lake in Ahmedabad Kankaria was established in 1451, during the reign of Sultan Qutubuddin. It is located in the South-Eastern part of the city, the most populous in the Maninagar area, and has a rounded shape, and the length of its perimeter is about 2.3 kilometers. At the time, bathed in its waters, many kings and rulers of the Principality. During its construction it was considered the possibility of contamination, so together with the lake was created and a special cleaning system that, unfortunately, today is no longer valid.

On one of its shores is the summer Palace, which, as they say, he loved to relax by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir with his wife, as well as a zoo and an amusement Park for children. And right in the center of the lake is the famous garden Nagina Wadi (translated as "beautiful garden").

The lake is a favorite picnic spot for residents and visitors to the city, and on its banks is very crowded at any time of the day. But particularly beautiful Kankaria lake at night, when its banks and water covers a huge amount of lights of different colors, creating intricate patterns on its surface. And a lot of cafés and restaurants on the waterfront will rest on the shore Kankaria even more enjoyable.

If desired, you can rent a boat and explore the waters of the lake, or take a small "travel" around it on the pleasure train 'Atal Express', which was specially made in London. Started attraction in 2008, after the decision was made to rebuild this place, and was named in honor of former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
