The hill, Saint Michael in Glastonbury attracted the attention of the people since time immemorial, and always he was surrounded by legends, myths and beliefs. This is the only hill for miles around. Its height of 145 meters, and the slopes of the hill are the seven ledges clearly artificial, man-made origin. Scientists, however, cannot give a definite answer, when and for what purpose these were made terraces.

Local name "tor" (tor) is of Celtic origin, and means 'hill, rock". The ancient Britons called the hill "Isle of avalon", because three sides of the hill surrounded by the river. Many believe that this is the most fabulous island of avalon from the legend of king Arthur. The monks once existed Glastonbury Abbey claimed that here lie the remains of king Arthur and Queen Guinevere, while another legend States that it was here Joseph of Arimathea brought the Holy Grail.

On the top of the hill once stood the Church of St. Michael. In 1275 it was destroyed by an earthquake. The second Church, built in 1360, lasted until 1539, when king Henry VIII issued a decree on the dissolution of the monasteries. Now on top of the hill stands a crumbling tower.

At the foot of the hill is the sacred Well of the Bowl – a source that never dries up even in the worst drought. Another legend says that at the bottom of it lies the Holy Grail, so the well and carries the name of the Bowl. However, the source was a sacred place long before the arrival of Christianity, wells has long been regarded as the gateway to other worlds.

Nowadays the number of legends surrounding Thor, not diminished but rather increased. It attracts researchers of the paranormal from around the world, modern pagans have chosen as their place of worship. But even if you are far from such things, it is worth to climb the trail to the top of the hill and to overcome the steep stairs, because from the top you have a magnificent view of the surroundings.
