In the centre of the small village Akhmatova Alatyr district of the Republic of Chuvashia is an ancient Church building, consecrated in 1792 in honor of the patronal feast of the Intercession. The temple is remarkable 1876, when the sacrament of baptism was received by the infant, Stepan Nefedov, who later became world-renowned artist under the pseudonym of Erzya.

An old brick building of the Church of intercession of the eighteenth century was built in the form of a double-height domed quadrangle refectory, in which there was a side chapel of St. Nicholas, as well as a five-sided altar and bell tower. Poor decoration of the facade was designed in the Baroque style. In the late 1930s, the rural Church was closed, took off the domes with crosses and used the building as a granary. Lost the complete composition of the building, broken doorways in the chancel, the part of the window openings bricked up and completely destroyed the roof, the bell tower and dome.

In 1995 the building of Holy protection Church return to the faithful. For all the time from the restoration work was done only altar hipped roof and cupola. Rural Orthodox community hopes to restore the bell tower and to restore the temple to its original appearance.
