The Museum of the poet Konstantinos kavafis, the world famous "heir of the great Homer," was opened in Alexandria in 1992. The exposition is dedicated to the life and works of the great Greek poet and placed in the house where the Cavafy lived for 25 years. The Museum is located near the station Misr. The building itself more than a century.

Future outstanding poet of the 20th century, was born in 1863 in the family secured a Greek merchant from Constantinople (now Istanbul). After his father's death the family cavafy have spent 7 years in England. Then returned to Constantinople. The Cavafy after Constantinople lived for some time in France, then in England, and in 1875 moved to Alexandria, where, before the age of 70 years old, died. In the house where he lived Cavafis, furniture used by the poet, there is a small collection of paintings, rare editions of his poetry books in your home library, gifts, Antiques, lots of pictures, icons, donated to the Museum by the Greek Church. Demonstrates commemorative certificates, awarded to a poet for his contribution to modern Greek culture, writing from his extensive correspondence with figures of world culture.

Researchers and admirers of cavafy was written more than three thousand articles and books. Translations of his poetic heritage was engaged in such well-known writers: E. M. Forster, T. S. Eliot. They were fond of W. Auden, C. Milosz, Joseph Brodsky. In Russian language the poems of cavafy translated by Y. Moritz, E. Smagin, A. velichanskii, G. Shmakov.

For his hobby of Hellenistic art and the cycle of homosexual lyrics then it was compared with Homer, and some Shakespeare. Marble bust of the writer, made in the Greek style, embodies his unique creativity.
