The Museum opened in 1983 and is a branch of the Vologda Museum-reserve. Set in an old mansion 1810 - a monument of architecture and urban development of Vologda. The building is a two-storey stone house in the city center near the Kremlin. Before this building was Specific Department, and in our day is the College of education, on a schedule which the Museum up and running. Here, in the family of G. A. Gravens, who was the nephew and guardian K. N. Batiushkov, passed the closing years of his life (1845-1855 yy.) of the famous Russian poet, was born in Vologda, Konstantin Nikolaevich Batiushkov (1787-1855), which was the predecessor of Alexander Pushkin and his poetic teacher.

In the exposition of the Museum, which is located in two halls, tells about an interesting, but very complicated destiny of the poet. Here you can learn about his ancestry, surroundings, his friends, about creativity and love of those memorable places visited Batyushkov. We see a man with a contradictory character: optimistic, then plunged into a deep depression, melancholic, passionate, suffering, careless.

The visitors opened the atmosphere of the XIX century. In the first room guests get acquainted with the life and creative activity of Konstantin Nikolaevich (letters, autographs, documents, engravings, drawings, books). It is here, in this little corner room on the second floor with wonderful views of the Vologda Kremlin, and spent the last years of his life Batiushkov.

In the next room of the Museum appears living room of the apartment of Grebenkov, recreated according to the recollections of N. In. Berg - contemporary Batiushkov, with a classic interior design: frame in the form of medallions, pieces of plaster, parquet floors, antique samovar, items made of mahogany and bronze, round table, mirrors. Unfortunately, not preserved memorabilia, but the whole situation brings to mind how the room looked when life Batiushkov. Came here a poet, looked out the window, playing with children, received the guests. Library also has not survived, but thanks to the works, letters and notebooks, the Museum staff were able to restore the range of his reading.

Active Museum visitors are school children. In the Museum they can not only see the biography of the poet, but to touch the history and feel the atmosphere of the time, to visit the apartment where he lived Batyushkov. Specially tailored suit easier to help them get used to the era of the nineteenth century. Young visitors love trying on dress and uniform. The theme presented in the Museum, is of considerable importance for aesthetic and Patriotic education of teenagers. Learning about the military exploits of the poet, the younger generation discovers Batiushkov not only as a poet, but also as a courageous defender of the Motherland, a real patriot. Annually at the Museum-apartment of festive events dedicated to the day of birth of Konstantin Nikolaevich Batiushkov. In the preparation of celebrations attended by employees of the library. Grandma, teachers, students and pupils in different schools. The Museum staff visited with students in the Spaso-Prilutsky monastery, to lay flowers on the grave of a fellow countryman, to honor his memory and to conduct a tour of the monastery.
