The catacombs of Kom ash-Sukkary Dating back to the II century ad, is the largest ancient necropolis in Egypt. Here are located in three tiers of tombs of the nobles. Down the spiral staircase that surrounds the well, which was devouring the bodies of the dead. The upper level has a large Banquet hall Triclinium and rotunda, whence diverge the corridors leading to the halls with niches for burials. Carved sarcophagi and bas-reliefs represent a mixture of Egyptian, Greek and Roman styles. On both sides of the burial chamber, located on the second level, under the heads of Medusa carved two Egyptian serpent in the Egyptian double crown. The lower level in the catacombs flooded and to get there it is still not possible.
