Ioanno-Predtechensky monastery is located in the city of Astrakhan and an active Orthodox monastery.

The monastery was founded in 1688 beyond Earth city, across the river Kutum. The initiator of the construction was made by Metropolitan of Astrakhan STS which provided all the necessary funds. It is also known that in 1688 the elder Alexander with the brethren started the construction of a stone Church in honour of the Holy Prophet and John the Baptist. Presumably, in the territory of the monastery at that time there was already a wooden Church.

The monastery and its inhabitants were hardships. So, in 1692 during the plague died, all brothers and the Abbot is the father of Alexander. The construction of the stone Church was delayed and it was only consecrated in 1697, under the new Metropolitan Sampson. The entire cloister was surrounded by perimeter stone walls, in the corners stood four turrets. At the time of the Ivanovo monastery, as it was called in the nation, played a spiritual role in the life of Astrakhan, but also had an important defensive value.

In 1723, the monastery was abolished and in the premises housed the infirmary. But five years later it was restored. In 1884, when the monastery opened a parochial school. But hard times for the monastery is not over. So, in 1919 it was closed again, and the buildings used as a warehouse and housing. In 1940, the bell tower was dismantled and the gate Church in the name of St. John the Warrior.

The revival and reconstruction of the monastery began in 1992. The renovation of the temple was finished in 2008.
