The Ningaloo Reef Photo: Ningaloo Reef

Ningaloo reef is famous coral reef, stretching for 260 km along the coast of Western Australia from Cape North-West. Its width is about 20 km, and in some places it approaches the shore at a distance of 50 meters. This is the only reef in the world located so close to the continent, and the longest in Australia solid barrier reef.

In this tropical underwater Paradise dwells 500 species of fish and 220 species of coral. But the most famous residents of the reef – whale sharks, reaching 12 meters in length. Here you can see giant manta rays, dolphins, sea turtles and whales – humpback and southern. Among the coral scurry clumsy dugongs.

Every year on the reef unfolds an amazing performance: in the spring a great many coral polyps simultaneously throws in a sea of ripe eggs. Immediately in anticipation of the feast appear a variety of crustaceans, followed by whale sharks, like vacuum cleaners sucking in krill in its massive jaws... This is the best time to observe the great natural spectacle from the side of the boat or diving with a mask in the thick of things. But we should not forget that to touch any marine life is prohibited. The entire reef is part of the marine Park, Ningaloo".

To get to the reef by plane from Perth to Limonta, and then by bus to the town of Exmouth. Best time to visit the reef is the period from April to July – this is the time of year the chances of meeting with ocean giants – whale.
