Abisko national Park in Sweden, located in the province of Lapland near the Norwegian border, and belongs to the municipality of Kiruna, the most Northern and the largest municipality of Sweden. The Park starts from the shores of the Torneträsk, one of the largest lakes of Sweden, where the village of Abisko, and stretches for 15 kilometers to the southwest. National Park Abisko is located about 195 kilometres North of the Arctic circle, and its total area is 77 sq. km. the Park was established in 1909, the year of adoption of the first Swedish law on nature protection.

The main objectives that were pursued in the creation of a national Park Abisko, was, of course, save on the territory of the Northern Scandinavian nature in its original form, and its use for scientific research. As it turned out, this area is for scientists of great interest, therefore, in 1903, was built a research station Abisko, and in 1935 she was United with the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences.

The national Park also, according to the plans of its founders, was to become a popular tourist destination.
