National theatre. Vasile Alecsandri, located in the city of Balti (Belts), is a cultural and educational centre.
The beginning of the history of theatre relates to 1957, when on the basis of the Russian drama theatre was created by a troupe of 25 young Moldovan actors. Their first production was the play "the young man in Iasi", created on the basis of the works of Vasile Alecsandri. In subsequent years, the troupe was joined by other talented actors, many of whom have become famous far beyond the country – Efim Lazarev, Mihai Volontir, Jacob, Burgio, Dean Koch, and many others. Great contribution to the development and establishment of the theatre was made Director and teacher Boris Kharchenko. Under his leadership at the theater were presented productions such as "Marriage" by N. Gogol, "Late love" by A. Ostrovsky, "As they loved" by A. Larevo, "the Comedy of errors" by William Shakespeare and other productions.
In January 1990, the theatre in Balti, one of the first in the Republic of Moldova has received a National title, and a year later moved to the new building, whose construction lasted 13 years. The building has two halls – small and large, each with a circular stage. Great room has a capacity of 584 viewer, small can host up to 60 spectators.
During the work of the theatre in his repertoire there are about two hundred performances for adults and children, based on the works of Russian and foreign classics and contemporaries. Theatre is a National title, because on the stage you can see the best plays based on texts by authors from Moldova and Romania.
